The opportunity
Our client wanted to create a more functional and inspiring space for her two young daughters — a place where they could play, craft, and read freely. The challenge was to work with the existing furniture while reimagining the space to maximise usability and flow. We gave each zone a clear purpose — from a cosy reading bench to a playful craft area — ensuring every corner of the room supported creativity and calm.
Design Highlights
Smart Storage: We reorganised the existing storage units, labelled the toy bins, and implemented a clear system to make tidying up quickand intuitive for the children.
Calm Yet Playful Palette: By keeping the colour scheme light and neutral, we allowed the natural colours of the toys to pop, while also creating a calming backdrop.
Wall Art That Inspires: Pastel dot wall decals added a cheerful yet subtle focal point that makes a warm and fun first impression — playful without overwhelming the senses.
Creative Layout: IKEA’s Trofast storage units were repositioned in a playful and practical layout to improve accessibility and visual balance.
Defined Zones: A custom wooden “play” sign above the toy storage helped define the area, adding character and intention to the space.
Whimsical Lighting: Three white pendant lights in different 3D shapes and heights brought a delightful touch of whimsy without dominating the design.
Girls Playroom Transformation
This playroom transformation was pure joyto be part of. Together with the Client we made the decision to keep thefurniture that had been purchased and bring a good layout and more organizationto the spce. This way kids can fully emerge in their creativity and have spaceto play with their toys rather than being an an overloaded or crampedenvironment.
Some toys were donated and the remainingtoys were organized and placed into the storageunits. We dedicated a readingbench with books above it and made the wall above a fun but still soothing eyecatcher with the pastel dots spread around the wall. We kept the new carpet aswell as the lighting light to create a calm play environment for the girls. Theoutcome was so rewarding and the girls loved their new transformed space.
