The opportunity
Our client wanted a more functional and inspiring playroom for her two young daughters, a space that encouraged learning, creativity, and relaxation. The goal was to maximise the room’s potential without replacing the existing furniture, instead focusing on thoughtful layout changes and purposeful zoning.
We introduced clear, defined areas within the space, including a soft reading corner with built-in bench seating, an organised craft station, and a play zone that allows for both movement and imagination. Bright colours, layered textures, and clever storage solutions made the room cheerful yet practical.
This project beautifully captures our approach to Playroom Interior Design, blending functionality with warmth to create spaces that grow with a family and inspire joy every day.
Design Highlights
Smart Storage and a Calm, Playful Palette
We reorganised the existing storage units, clearly labelled each toy bin, and implemented a practical system that makes tidying up quick and intuitive for the children. The light, neutral colour scheme allowed the natural colours of the toys to shine, creating a calm backdrop that feels both organised and playful.
Wall Art and Creative Layout
Pastel dot wall decals added a cheerful yet subtle focal point, giving the room a playful energy without overwhelming the senses. IKEA Trofast storage units were repositioned to improve both accessibility and balance, ensuring the layout encouraged independence and imaginative play.
Defined Zones and Whimsical Lighting#
A custom wooden “play” sign above the toy storage helped define the play area, adding character and a clear sense of purpose. Three pendant lights in different shapes and heights introduced a whimsical finishing touch, providing soft illumination and a feeling of light-hearted charm.
Girls Playroom Transformation
This playroom transformation was an absolute joy to be part of. Working closely with the client, we decided to keep the existing furniture and instead focus on improving the layout and organisation of the space. This approach gave the girls room to explore their creativity and play freely without the space feeling overloaded or cramped.
Some toys were donated to make room for better organisation, and the remaining ones were neatly arranged within the storage units. A dedicated reading bench with shelves above for books created a calm, cosy corner, while the pastel wall dots added a cheerful yet soothing focal point. By keeping the carpet and lighting soft and neutral, the overall atmosphere remained light, balanced, and playful.
The result is a warm and functional Playroom Interior Design that encourages imagination and togetherness. The transformation was incredibly rewarding, and the girls were thrilled with their new, inspiring space.
