Premier Inn Restaurant and Pub
The opportunity
In anticipation of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, this concept for Premier Inn Doha transformed the existing breakfast area into a flexible, dual-purpose venue. By day, it served as a bright and welcoming breakfast space, while by night it became an atmospheric English-style pub designed to celebrate both tradition and character.
The design drew inspiration from The Wind in the Willows and the whimsical charm of Mr. Toad, combining Victorian pub influences with contemporary finishes. Rich wood panelling, exposed brickwork, and copper detailing grounded the scheme in heritage, while patterned tiles and bold wallpapers added vibrancy and storytelling. Custom lighting, inspired by Mr. Toad’s hat, introduced a sense of fun that balanced nostalgia with modern comfort.

Warm Materials and Classic Detailing
Traditional wood panelling and exposed brickwork form the foundation of this interior, creating a rich and authentic pub atmosphere. Copper cladding was introduced to add warmth and a subtle industrial edge, balancing nostalgia with a modern finish. The combination of textures gives the space depth and a distinctly English pub feel.
Playful Storytelling Through Colour and Pattern
Modern tile patterns and decorative wallpaper provide contrast and energy to the space. The design celebrates character-driven storytelling, featuring playful nods to Mr. Toad from The Wind in the Willows throughout the restaurant and bar area. This layered approach blends visual intrigue with a sense of personality, transforming a practical layout into an immersive dining experience.
Bespoke Lighting and Thematic Layers
Custom lighting inspired by Mr. Toad’s iconic hat serves as a playful focal point above the bar and seating zones. Each fixture enhances ambience and depth, reinforcing the theme while illuminating textures across the wood, metal, and patterned surfaces. Originally a purely practical breakfast area, the space lacked warmth, narrative, and visual identity. The redesign proposal reimagined it as a dynamic dual-purpose venue, a bright breakfast spot by day and a lively English-style pub by night. Drawing inspiration from The Wind in the Willows and Mr. Toad’s spirited personality, the concept layered traditional pub materials with modern finishes and storytelling details. The result is a warm, atmospheric interior that balances functionality with imagination, creating a memorable dining and social experience for guests.
